Brief Description

As part of my degree's Industrial Placement year, I worked at Gloversure. After completing my placement, I continued working for the company part-time before returning to university in September 2021. Gloversure is a digital web agency based in Chester. Their work includes web development, app development, marketing and designing. My role mainly consisted of app development and I also completed including web development. In addition to technical skills, this placement provided the opportunity for me to see how a software development team functions and how a project progresses from stage to stage. Other skills developed include:

  • Communication with my team
  • Working collaboratively or independently
  • Working on feedback received
  • Supporting users (fixing issues raised by users)

Skills Developed

During my time at Gloversure, I improved many of my soft and hard skills. The main hard skills I improved were my technical and coding skills. I was given the opportunity to work with many different frameworks and languages. The main language I used was JavaScript with the Angular and Ionic Frameworks for app development. I also worked with the Vue Framework. Additionally, I received training in the PHP framework Laravel. I used this framework to create stand-alone web systems and API endpoints to support app projects.

During a project's lifecycle, I contributed to many stages of a project's development process. These contributions include:

  • Writing Documentation
  • Database structuring
  • Planning
  • Designing
  • App development
  • API endpoint planning and building
  • Testing & Reporting

Liverpool Guild of Students

Halls Student Committee
September 2018 - July 2019
TeamworkEventPlanningMeetingSupport

Brief Description

During my first year at the University of Liverpool, I volunteered to be part of the Halls Student Committee (HSC). This committee was created for a group of students to represent other students in the halls. This allowed students to bring up issues and suggestions directly to the university and the halls team. As a result, the HSC were in close contact with the halls' Warden, Residential Advisors and members of the student's union.

Skills Developed

As part of the committee, I would attend weekly meetings. In these meetings, I had the opportunity to write meeting minutes and lead meetings. Here I learned the common practices of running and attending meetings. During these meetings, we would discuss problems in the halls and organise student events. By attending regularly, we would receive updates from other members and delegate tasks to each other. This ensured everyone knew what was happening and solutions were created.

During my time on the committee, we hosted multiple events in the academic year These events included seasonal events such as an easter egg hunt, pumpkin carving competition and a summer carnival. I had many responsibilities for these events and took on many different roles. Some include:

  • Poster designing
  • Event planning (contacting suppliers, collecting deliveries, floor planning, creating schedules)
  • Risk assessment
  • Reflecting on completed events
